N,N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine CAS:99-97-8
N,N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine properties, uses and production process physicochemical properties
N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine is a colorless or light yellow oily liquid with odor of rotten egg, melting point 130.31℃, boiling point 211.5-212.5℃, weight 0.9287-0.9366g/mL at room temperature, refractive index 1.5360-1.5470, insoluble in water, soluble in some organic solvents, decomposed by light. It is used as an effective photoinitiator for the polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN), and its polymerization speed is proportional to the 1.62nd of AN concentration and the 0.62nd of DMT concentration. The product is commonly used as an accelerator and, in addition, as an additive in the synthesis of unsaturated polyesters and in bonding agents. Synthesis method: N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine is synthesized by using dimethyl sulfate as a methylating agent at low temperature and atmospheric pressure. N,4-dimethyl-N-(3-phenylprop-2-ynyl)benzylamine and N-(methyl(p-tolyl)amino)methyl)benzamide can be formed by iron-catalyzed oxidative C-C coupling with phenacetylene and benzamide in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide, respectively.
