N,N-diethylaniline is a light yellow oily liquid that can be used to prepare azo dyes, triphenylmethane dyes, etc. It is also an important intermediate for the synthesis of drugs and color film developers, and its applications are very wide.
synthetic route
Dissolve dppe (1 mg, 0.0025 mmol) in dry nBu2O (1 mL) and add Karstedt catalyst (29 μL, 0.0025 mol) in a Schlenk tube under argon atmosphere. After stirring the mixture for 10 minutes, PhSiH3 (247 μL, 2.0 mmol) was added. Aniline (45.6 μL, 0.5 mmol), n-hexadecane (50 μL) as internal standard, and CH3ChemicalbookCO2H (63 μL, 1.1 mmol) were added immediately, and then stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. Upon completion, the mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (15 mL), carefully quenched with aqueous NaOH (3M solution; 5 mL), and stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (three times), and the combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous MgSO4. The organic phase was filtered, concentrated, and purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/ethyl acetate mixture) to give N,N-diethylaniline.
