N,N-dihydroxyethyl-p-toluidine is a colorless crystalline solid. It is soluble in water, alcohols and ether solvents at room temperature. It is slightly alkaline and can react with acids to form salts. It is a stable compound that is not easily oxidized.
N,N-dihydroxyethyl p-toluidine is mainly used to prepare dyes, optical brighteners and phosphate additives.
N,N-dihydroxyethyl p-toluidine can be prepared by reacting p-toluidine with an oxidizing agent (such as hydrogen peroxide). There are various specific preparation methods.
